Digital media are pervasive, ubiquitous and mundane constituents of organization. Organized life relies on, and is propelled by, technologies that store, transmit and process data and are based on networked computation. How can we understand and explore the fundamental mediatedness of organization? This article contextualizes and introduces the special issue on 'The organizational powers of (digital) media' by staging an encounter between organization theory and media theory. In provoking investigations of the power and effects of technological mediation in its many guises, not least in regard to digital or computational media, this encounter ushers in a 'medial thought' of organization.

This article discusses the relationship between nonprofessional media participation and the professional handling of participants. It expands on the case of “Karen”, who related her life-threatening illness and patient experience in a broad range of media before transitioning into professional communications work for a health organization that required her to recruit other patient-participants. The article contributes to research on media participation by focusing on the blurred boundaries between professionals and nonprofessionals. It describes how relationships between the two can be characterized by tensions and dilemmas that are closely tied to issues of status and control. Karen’s case is instructive in the particular light it sheds on such matters and on how control over the mediated telling of a life story is exercised.

Purpose The sharing economy is a socio-economic system in which individuals acquire and distribute goods and services among each other for free or for compensation through internet platforms. The sharing economy has attracted the interest of the academic community, which examined the phenomenon from the economic, social and technological perspectives. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach Given the lack of an overarching analysis of the sharing economy, this paper employs a quantitative content analysis approach to explore and synthesise relevant findings to facilitate the understanding of this emerging phenomenon. Findings The paper identified and grouped findings under four themes, namely: collaborative consumption practices, resources, drivers of user engagement and impacts, each of which is discussed in relation to the three main themes, aiming to compare findings and then put forward an agenda for further research. Originality/value The paper offers a balanced analysis of the building blocks of the sharing economy, to identify emerging themes within each stream, to discuss any contextual differences from a multi-stakeholder perspective and to propose directions for future studies.

The self-assembled structures formed by alkyl salicylate surfactants, as a function of metal headgroup counterion, in dodecane and toluene have been investigated. Results from optical microscopy are combined with small angle neutron scattering to show that moisture in the organic phase can have a dramatic effect on the observed structures. A simple acidic cation produces a cluster of surfactant chains irrespective of the oil type or presence of water. However, systems with an alkali metal counterion (potassium or sodium) result in cylindrical micelles in dry dodecane changing to lamellar structures in the wet case and fuzzy spheres in dry toluene changing to bidisperse emulsions with the presence of water. However, if magnesium or calcium counterions are used, this leads to different structures, depending on the oil type and the presence of moisture.

Governments, corporations, and organizations every kind are adopting Internet-based technologies that radi-cally impact the most essential of human activities – the act of communicating with one another. Internet channels are many and varied, but in total, the purview of any organization communicating with internal and external audiences must include not only websites, but also blogs, video outlets, and social media efforts – most notably Face-book, LinkedIn, and Twitter, not to mention rapidly evolving geo-lo-cated services, such as Groupon, Foursquare, and Yelp. Employing a "website only" online presence has be-come antiquated as quickly as having a website became a necessity.

Purpose - This paper aims to introduce readers to international governmental information sources.Design/methodology/approach - The paper offers an introduction to international information sources and research methods as well as governmental structural information while providing an overview of the United Nations and European Union as well as several other sources. Findings - International information comprises governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental sources. Knowledge of government structures with regard to international governments can provide guidance in locating specific governmental information.Research limitations/implications - Due to myriad information sources, it is impossible to provide a comprehensive overview of international governmental sources. Also, technology and changing governments add to the challenge of becoming familiar with informational sources in a shortened amount of time. Originality/value - This paper provides an introduction to international governmental sources for the general reference librarian with the ultimate purpose of providing clarity and confidence when offering international governmental reference services.

If you have a large music collection and you need to find the perfect tune for a PowerPoint presentation or webcast due in an hour, a lack of organizational skills can seriously impact your job performance. Luckily, Windows Media Player 10 can help you quickly tidy up your music collection, and ieave you more time in your day to unearth your lunch from that stack of papers on your desk. To help you organize your digital media files so you can find what you're looking for more quickly, we'll: 1. Update Media Player by moving all media files from your hard drive to the Library. 2. Keep the Library current by configuring Media Player to add new music to it automatically. 3. Customize the Details pane to display only those columns you need to view. 4. Add detailed information to files for better identification with the Advanced Tag Editor. 5. Export music information to a Microsoft application to ensure better hard copy organization of your files.

In recent years, social media platforms have become a popular tool for feminist activists and the main medium of communication for new feminist organizations to gain higher visibility. However, along with opportunities, they also bring a reshaping of communication forms and challenges in the modes of organization of these groups, which seek to transform the prevailing individualist logic of the mediated social media landscape into a collective identity. Through the findings of qualitative, semi-structured interviews and the analysis of the content published online, this article looks at the structures of interactions and organizing processes in the social media accounts of new Spanish feminist groups. The findings show that although the committees are aware of the importance of an online presence, they face many obstacles in the creation of collective profiles due to the lack of guidelines, having no clear organized steps on how to post content with consensus within each committee, and the many demands of the speed-driven nature of social media platforms.

The electrodeposition of polypyrrole on zinc electrodes has been performed by anodic oxidation of pyrrole in acetonitrile, nitrobenzene and propylene carbonate media in the presence of para-toluene sulfonate counter-ions. When the zinc electrode has preferably undergone a chemical treatment by aqueous sodium sulfide solution, homogeneous and adherent PPy films are obtained. While, no PPy films grows (in the case of C_6H_5NO_2 and PC) or a non-homogeneous and poorly adherent PPy-zinc oxide composite forms (in the case of CH_3CN) when the zinc surface is simply polished. Among the electrochemical techniques used in these experiments, the galvanostatic mode was proved to be better adapted to perform the electropolymerization of pyrrole on the pretreated zinc electrodes using low applied current densities. The polypyrrole films synthesized by this technique has been characterized by several microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. In particular, SEM, XPS, FT-IR and Raman analyses showed that the obtained coatings have the same structure and morphological properties as those electrodeposited on Pt electrodes.

According Gartner, media industries are the third largest spender in IT infrastructure, software, and hardware after banking and manufacturing industries. Newcomers in media industries utilize latest technologies to produce, manage, and distribute their content in a way the consumer would like to enjoy digital content with their rich new content offerings. Amazon, Apple, Facebook, or Google are just the prime examples for companies attracting many new consumers with their innovative content offerings. Their IT infrastructures are centred on the management of digital content throughout their software solutions to manage digital rights, apply data mining, or their customer relationship management software. Within the scope of this position paper the challenge is to pinpoint to the importance of defining a research agenda on information systems and management in creative media industries, to create a holistic vision of eMedia industries in total a€“ from traditional towards fully digital media industries.
